Another year of of the Oregon District 5 Little League baseball and softball all-star tournaments are in the book, and area teams fared pretty well.

The 10-11 year-old club, coached by Dave Padilla and Greg Jones, won the district title in dominating fashion, beating Crook County 23-1 in the final last Tuesday.

They will now move on to the state tournament in Hood River, which begins Friday, and will take on the champion of Oregon District 4. District 4 stretches from Tillamook County to the west and the Beaverton areas to the east, as well as south to Tigard and north to Raleigh Hills.

Hermiston will play at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

The 11-12 year-old softball team placed second, losing to Hood River in the final of that bracket.

Both the 10-11 and 11-12 year-old baseball teams finished fourth in their brackets, while the Columbia 13-14 year-old softball team defeated Redmond in the final to take home a district championship.

Columbia won't have to go far for its state tournament, which will be played in Milton-Freewater.
