The Hermiston softball team earned a No. 2 seed in the OSAA Class 5A softball playoffs coming off its 12-1 win over Wilsonville on May 20.

They will play Mountain View of Bend, a former Intermountain Conference opponent, at 4 p.m. May 25 at Rocky Heights Elementary School. The Cougars are a No. 7 seed in the 16-team bracket with a 12-11 overall record.

Hermiston joins all its Columbia River Conference opponents in the playoffs. Pendleton earned a No. 2 in the top bracket (Hermiston is in the bottom bracket) and will play No. 7 North Eugene in the first round. The two rivals would only meet in the state title game since they are in different brackets.

There could be a CRC matchup in the quarterfinals if No. 6 Hood River Valley can knock off No. 3 West Albany, given the Dawgs beat Mountain View.

The Dalles Wahtonka is the No. 1 overall seed and will face No. 8 Lebanon in the opening round.

On the baseball diamond, the Stanfield Tigers also earned a No. 2 seed and will have a home playoff game May 25.

They will take on North Douglas at 4 p.m. at Madigan Field. The Tigers won the Special District 6 title with a 13-2 pounding of Weston-McEwen in the SD6 tournament Saturday in The Dalles.

Heppner also earned a home game, seeded No. 3, against Umpqua Valley Christian. A time hasn't been set, but the game will be on May 25.
