The American Youth Soccer Organization Region 887,

based in Hermiston, will hold its opening ceremonies at 9 a.m.

August 27 at Butte Park in Hermiston.

This fall, there are 90 teams and 900 players

competing in the region from ages 4-13. Hermiston has been involved

in AYSO since 1993, and the organization began in southern

California is 1964.

All referees, coaches and board members are

volunteers. The local board includes Daren and Tonya Broderick,

Heather Dircksen, Kevin and Tonya Christiansen, Shelly Parmelee,

Dale Ternes, James Rowden, Anna Zubrick and Steven Enger.

AYSO has six pillars of philosophy in teaching the

game of soccer: everyone plays, positive coaching, open

registration, player development, balanced teams and good

sportsmanship.

Some products of AYSO include current Los Angeles

Galaxy and United States Men’s National Team superstar Landon

Donovan and former US Women’s National Team play Joy Fawcett.
