The Hermiston girls basketball team shot just 4 of 21 in the first half, which led to a 49-39 loss to Bend in the OSAA Class 5A quarterfinals Wednesday in Eugene.

The ice-cold shooting start ended up being insurmountable as Bend packed in a zone defense and used its interior size to slow the pace of the game.

Maloree Moss and Heidi Walchli each scored 12 points for Hermiston while Callahan Crossley came off the bench with eight.

For the Lava Bears, Mekayla Isaak scored 12 points and hauled in 10 rebounds while Ally McConnell scored 10 and had nine boards.

Hermiston will now face Wilsonville in the consolation semfinals at 9 a.m. Thursday, a team they have played in the past two state tournaments. Bend will move to the championship semifinals to face No. 1 Springfield, 59-15 winners against Wilsonville in the first quarterfinal game.
