Hermiston’s Breana Berger knotted the match with a

goal in the 45th minute, but that was all the attack could muster

in a 1-1 tie Tuesday in Pendleton.

The tie allowed Hood River Valley to claim the

conference championship with its win against The Dalles

Wahtonka.

Pendleton struck first with a Whitney Hillmick goal

in the 29th minute, and the Bucks were able to fend off some

aggressive play late in the match from the Dawgs.

Hermiston peppered the Bucks’ net with shots all

throughout the second half, but strong goalkeeper from Alexus

McGraw kept the match level and the league title out of Hermiston’s

hands.

The Dawgs pounded the Bucks at home earlier in the

season, 4-0, but the Bucks were bound and determined not to let

that happen on their home turf at Blue Mountain Community

College.

Hermiston entertained St. Helens on Friday in a Class

5A play-in, but the results were not available by the Herald’s

press time.

Earlier in the year, Hermiston defeated the Lions,

2-0, in St. Helens.
