In his second trip to the USA Kids National Wrestling Tournament, Tyler Berger won his first two national titles.
The Hermiston 12 year-old won both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle championships as an 80 pound Novice at the McKay Events Center at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah Sunday, July 6.
Berger went 6-0 in each event, pinning two in the Greco and four in the freestyle. He was awarded one technical fall and five decisions along the course of the tournament.
The wins make the young wrestler a three-time All-American this year, as he finished third in the USA Kids Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa in April.
When he competed at the national level two years ago, Berger finished second in the Freestyle and Greco and fourth in the Folkstyle.
More than 700 wrestlers ages 9-14 competed at the tournament, which was called the "Little League World Series" of youth wrestling, and included participants from as far away as New York and Alaska.
Berger was the only representative of Hermiston at the event.
