Coming to a good spot, Pappy directed the assistant to get the cage out of the car. He and Tom spent a few minutes coming up with a downed tree branch that looked sufficient to the job and gave it to the assistant.

It turns out that the good folks who make a Havahart trap made one slight design flaw. The trap is meant to catch things, but release is entirely another matter. Unfortunately, one has to hold it open by hand.
