PEO honors Middleton with STAR scholarship

HERMISTON — The Hermiston P.E.O. organization, Chapter CV, is honored to announce that the prestigious P.E.O. STAR Scholarship in the amount of $2,500, for the 2018-2019 academic year, was presented to Reed Middleton, one of the valedictorians of Hermiston High School’s Class of 2018. The scholarship was presented at the Hermiston High School scholarship night on June 4, 2018.

Also, just days after receiving the scholarship, Reed was initiated as a third-generation member of Chapter CV of the P.E.O., joining her mother Cindy Middleton and grandmother Judy Bracher.

The daughter of Jason and Cindy Middleton, she was recommended for this scholarship by Chapter CV of Hermiston. Reed has been accepted and will attend Kansas State University where she plans to study ag economics, with a minor in Spanish, beginning in the fall.

The scholarship is based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. Reed exemplifies each of these pillars through her academic excellence, well-rounded interests and involvement, passion for leadership and serving others, and immense dedication to Hermiston High School’s FFA program, National Honor Society, student government, and the iCan Bike program, to name a few.

The STAR program is open to young women who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States or Canada and who are graduating high school seniors at the time of application. A student must be recommended by a P.E.O. Chapter.
