Sixth ArtWalk a ‘success’

Artist Judy Wright speaks about her paintings inside Andee’s Boutique during Saturday’s Hermiston ArtWalk.

Art and music brought Main Street to life last weekend during the sixth annual Hermiston ArtWalk. Artist and organizer Mary Corp called the event a “great success.”

“We were just delighted with the amount of turnout that we had,” she said Monday. “We had a great group of people all day long, lots of kids. I think all the artists were very happy and the people who came out enjoyed themselves.”

This year, the ArtWalk brought 15 visual artists and five musical ensembles, as well as a collection of children’s activities.

“Some of the feedback I got was just more artists, more music,” Corp said. “I think we found a great mix of activities this year. I hope we are able to take what we have and increase it and make it better.”

This year also marked the first year the ArtWalk included a guest juror and a People’s Choice Award. The People’s Choice Award was selected by ballot from those who attended the event, and the guest judge — Linda Hill, Redmond Arts Commission President — selected and awarded the general awards.

Award winners were:

Gold Award — Pola Galindo

Silver Award — Annie Hobson

Hon. Mention — Marian Perdas

Hon.  Mention — Mary Corp

Hon. Mention — Virginia and Ken Harris

People’s Choice — Helday De La Cruz
