Army Pvt. Zachary David Kirkpatrick of Hermiston graduated from Basic Combat Training in Fort Sill, Okla., on August 25, 2017.

Pvt. Kirkpatrick successfully completed an intensive, 10-week program that included tactical and survival skills, nuclear biological and chemical defense, land mine defense, marksmanship, rappelling, and physical and mental fitness, military customs and the Seven Core Army Values.

Pvt. Kirkpatrick is the son of Dave and Anne Kirkpatrick of Hermiston and Annette Greiner of Milton-Freewater. He has returned home to complete his senior year at Hermiston High School, where he is active in wrestling and choir.
