Farm Trade Show important to area

37th Annual Hermiston Farm Fair & Trade Show

Welcome to the Farm Fair & Trade Show.

A large contingent of farmers and ranchers are in town starting today at the conference center, 415 S. Highway 395, for this annual meeting.

This is a very serious three days as the schedule and stories portrayed in the Hermiston Herald special section on Saturday.

Leading experts from state, federal and local agencies and organizations will be offering detailed discussions on a wide-range of issues.

If you think farming has not gone high tech just take a look at some of the topics. For example, “Using DNA to track predation in potato fields.” Or, “Use of biopesticides in pest management.”

Then, for the livestock growers, “Nutrition and management strategies to prevent calving problems.”

There will be sessions on water such as one on the Umatilla Basin acquifer recharge project.

How to grow corn or  raise better potatoes may seem very academic to the average citizen. But it is this kind of knowledge that assures all non-farmers in Oregon and the United States will continue to have enough to eat.

So, we are proud to host this important meeting. And we thank all of you ranchers and farmers for our daily bread.
