Lola Houchin

Former Hermiston resident Lola L. Houchin, 77, of Reedsport died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at Mid Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles. A memorial gathering was held Saturday, Nov. 27 at Skip Walchli’s farm near Hermiston. Private family burial will be held at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Stanfield.

Mrs. Houchin was born Jan. 29, 1933, in Heppner to Clarence and Viola Shank Reid. She was raised and attended schools in Hermiston.

She married Jack D. Houchin in 1951 in Hermiston. They lived in Hermiston until moving to The Dalles in 1974, and then to La Grande in 1978. They returned to Hermiston in 1984. Jack died in 1997 and she later moved to Newport in 2000. She moved to Reedsport in 2004, where she has lived since.

Mrs. Houchin is survived by daughters Shirley Verzani and Cookie Prickett, both of Reedsport; brothers Robert Reid of Heppner and Russel Reid of Mills City; sister Clara Whitney of Murdock, Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brother Perry “James” Reid; and sister Mary Johnston.

Memorial contributions may be made to any children’s charity.
