HERMISTON — John Whitcomb Koester Jr., 61, of Hermiston died Saturday, April 30, 2011. A memorial celebration of life service, including communion, will be conducted Thursday, May 5 at 6 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 665 E. Gladys Ave., Hermiston. All are invited to receive the sacraments.

Mr. Koester was born March 12, 1950, in Baltimore, Md. His parents’ names are unknown. He graduated from Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore, and attended Resurrection College in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, a Roman Catholic seminary on the Campus of the University of Waterloo, where he earned a degree in theology. He also received a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1972 and completed the deaconate program at St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore. A few years later he returned to college and received his bachelor’s degree as a registered nurse.

He is survived by his sister, Judy Schneider of Maryland, and a close friend of 30 years, Stacey Miller.

His parents and brother Thomas Koester preceded him in death.
