Obituary: Alta ‘Byrnece’ Sprague

HERMISTON — Alta “Byrnece” Sprague, 84, of Hermiston died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at Ashley Manor Residential Care Center in Hermiston. Graveside funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6 at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd., in Portland.

Mrs. Sprague was born May 2, 1926, in Heppner to Ora Luke and Anna Bernice (Tillson) Barlow. She attended grade school in Hermiston and Cornelius, and graduated from high school in Forest Grove. She went to college at Oregon State University for one year.

She married Robert Bruce “Bob” Sprague in 1945 in Vancouver, Wash. They lived in Corbett for several years, in Birkenfeld for 31 years and moved to Hermiston in 2007.

Mrs. Sprague is survived by sons Keith Sprague of Gouldsboro, Maine, Mike Sprague of Umatilla and Mark Sprague of Colville, Wash.; daughters Kathleen Tommy of Cornelius and Deena Woods of Lostine; brother Robert Barlow of Albany; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sprague, in January 2010; son David Sprague in 1980; parents Ora and Anna Barlow; brother Bill Barlow; and sister Caroline Bretz in 2010.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
