Pilot Rock

Donald “Richard” Davie was born Aug. 6, 1949, in Pendleton and passed away August 30, 2021, in Springfield. He was the son of Donald and Charlotte (Kelly) Davie. Richard grew up in Pilot Rock graduating in 1967 from Pilot Rock High School. He was drafted by the Army in 1969.

He spent a year in Huntsville, Alabama studying electronics prior to being deployed. In August of 1970 he married Jackie Rasmussen; they later divorced. Shortly after the wedding he was deployed to Germany where they lived until 1972. While in Germany his daughter Kimberly was born. After returning from Germany in 1972, he started driving log trucks and soon after bought his first truck, one of many. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1975. That year his son, Dustin, was born. He spent the remainder of his life driving trucks, moving from hauling logs to agriculture products after logging slowed down.

One of his favorite times of year was hauling wheat for his daughter and son-in-law’s wheat harvest. During his many years of truck driving, he met many great lifelong friends. In 1993, he met Suzie Longhorn Baker, the love of his life. They married in November of 2000. With this marriage his family expanded by four more kids.

Richard was loved by his family and known to be the family jokester, always telling jokes and stories of days gone by. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Suzie Davie of Echo; children, Kim (Mike) Widner of Pilot Rock, Dustin (Jamie) Davie of Milwaukie, Dick Baker Jr. of Stanfield, Nicole(Ricardo) Montoya of Stanfield; sister, Jackie Mikel of Pilot Rock; Linda Deeds of Hermiston; and Susan Lambert of Portland; 13 grandkids, eight great-grandkids and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Kay Snively; daughter, Connie Baker, who passed away Aug. 31, 2021, and daughter, Denene Davis. Celebration of life will be postponed until further notice.
