Former Hermiston resident Lawrence H. Thompson, 92, of Monroe, Wash., died Saturday, October 27, 2012, in Monroe. He was born December 20, 1919, in Webster Grove, Mo.

Lawrence was a career Army Air Corps-U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant and worked for the Department of Defense.

Lawrence was active in the Masonic Lodge, Shriners in Korea and in Eastern Star.

He was a member of The Faith Presbyterian Church in Hermiston, Oregon, and he enjoyed helping the children learn to read in the elementary school in Hermiston.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife Mildred of 63 years.

His survivors include his children Luella Buxton, Nancy Mattson, Carol (Michael) Kalina, David (Cindy) Thompson, Nathan (Paula) Thompson and Naomi (Gerard) Martinez; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law Naomi Brisnahan; numerous good friends; numerous nieces and nephews; and many church and Masonic brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held in Hermiston, Ore.; the date will be announced later.

Memorials may be made to ChildrenÂ’s Shriners Hospital, 3147 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97239.

Arrangements are with Purdy & Kerr Funeral Home, Monroe, Wash.
