Katherine Morgan Tovey was born Jan. 31, 1929, the ninth of 12 children, to Ed and Cassie Morgan in Malad, ID. She graduated from Malad High School in 1947, attended BYU for a year, before marrying Terrel R. Tovey on June 14, 1949.
She and Terrel lived in Logan, UT while he completed his MS degree at Utah State, and where she proudly received her PHT (Putting Hubby Through) degree. Later they moved to Fort Hall, Idaho Indian Agency. Then another move with their five children to Blackfoot, ID where they added six more children to the family. They also lived briefly in Coeur d’Alene and Pasco before finally settling in Hermiston, OR. This was Katie’s home for the next 41 years.
Everywhere she went, she served her family, church and community with a kind heart and a twinkle in her eye. Katie valued self-improvement and continually added to her education and significant talents. Not only was she exceptional at typing and shorthand, but she was also famous for her amazing homemaking skills and the best dinner rolls in the country. Despite her own busy life, she showed her love for others through innumerable handmade quilts, countless loaves of bread or the gift of her time.
She is survived by: her husband: Terrel Tovey, Hermiston, OR; sons: Randy Tovey (Melodee) Irrigon, OR, Rod Tovey (Char) Pocatello, ID, Jeff Tovey, Sun Valley, ID, Doug Tovey (Melinda) Hermiston, OR, Les Tovey (Jan) Springfield, OR; daughters: Annette Tovey, Boise, ID, Kathy Hensel, Walla Walla, WA Susan Taylor (Kelly), Walla Walla, WA, Alaina Lemmon (Mark), Heppner, OR, Sheri Hill (Brett) Moses Lake, WA.; brothers: Glen Dee Morgan and wife Delores, Lewiston, ID; 48 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren (with 3 more on the way); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Katie was preceded in death by her (son) Richard M. Tovey, (parents) Cassie & Ed Morgan, (siblings) Larell Morgan, Ann Merrill, Lewis Moran, Doris Kay, Leland Morgan, Lydia Thomas, Ed Moran, Bill Morgan, Gene Morgan, Cleve Morgan.
A funeral service is Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 850 S.W. 11th St., Hermiston. Burial follows at the Hermiston Cemetery, Hermiston.
