Jack Louis Daniels was born on June 28, 1941, in Monticello, Kentucky, to parents Melvin and Mary Daniels. He died on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at his home in Hermiston at the age of 71 years. Jack was a longtime resident of Hermiston. He was a veteran of Vietnam, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant. Jack received the Purple Heart and several medals including the Vietnam Service Medal.
He worked as a Hermiston police officer for 4 years. Jack then went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years and retired. He was a member of the Hermiston Eagles Lodge.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Daniels, his first wife, Theresa Davis, 1 sister and 2 brothers.
He is survived by his former wife of 27 years, Linda Daniels; mother Mary Daniels of Pendleton; daughters Laura Daniels, Tamara Daniels, Debora Dierwechter, Stacey Stuart of Portland, Ore., and Barbara Watson of Tri-Cities, Wash.; brothers Doug Daniels of Irrigon, Ken Daniels of Stanfield, James Daniels of Richland, Wash., and Larry Daniels of Pilot Rock; sisters Arlene Schiller of Pendleton, Dorothy Moen of Pilot Rock, Donna Clements of Hermiston, Martha Graham of Mt. Hood, Ore., Velma Rice of Pendleton, Susan Fisher of Stanfield, Janet Hedricks of Richard, Wash., and Kathy Black of Milton-Freewater; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery.
