Eugene Charles Gene Rash, 82, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Regency Hermiston Nursing Facility in Hermiston. A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. at Family Worship Center in Irrigon. Disposition was by cremation.
Mr. Rash was born May 19, 1928, in Boulder, Colo., to Charles Boyd and Thieda Mary (Wright) Rash. He lived in Colorado, Alaska and Oklahoma before he joined the Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. After the service he located to Florence. In 1956 he married Donna Darlene McLaws in Sweet Home.
While in Florence he worked as a logger on a log pond building log rafts. He moved to the Eugene area from 1968 until 1974, where he worked as a carrier driver for Seneca Sawmill. In 1974 he moved to Umatilla and worked in construction of the Boardman Coal Fire Plant, Two Rivers Correctional Institution and the Safeway grocery store. After his retirement he worked driving employees for the railroad.
Mr. Rash is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna Rash of Stanfield; daughters Bonnie Jean Cimmiyotti of Hermiston, Tammie Darlene McCoy of Madras, Cindy May Powell of Camas, Wash., and Tracy Lynn Kramer of Irrigon; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Steven Boyd Rash in 1963, and sisters Irene Cox, Maxine Severy and Elsie Riggs.
