Ellen, 81, died August 26 in Stayton. She was lived most of her life in Eastern Oregon she was born in Prairie City and grew up in John Day. Her first teaching position was in Myrtle Point, where she worked for three years. She lived in Stanfield from 1958 to 1999 and in Hermiston from 1999 to 2012.
Ellen taught home economics for 30 years in the Stanfield and Echo school districts. She was a member of Chapter DR of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and Pollyannas. Ellen was both a 4-H member and leader, and she belonged to two quilting groups in Hermiston. A true OSU Beaver, graduating in 1955, Ellen followed Beaver sports and faithfully listened to games on her radio. She enjoyed horseback riding as a youth, being outdoors, camping, gardening and handcrafts.
Ellen married Clarence Drtina on July 1, 1961, in John Day. He preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by daughters Claire (Scott) Nettleton of Salem and Jane (Ernie) Claassen of Stayton, and grandchildren Eric, Riley, Sean and Caroline Nettleton and Briana, Byron, Logan and Rose Claassen, three nieces and a nephew. Ellen was preceded in death by sister Kathleen Rosier and grandson Benjamin Claassen.
Memorial services will be held at Hermiston First United Methodist Church, where she was a member, on Saturday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m. Private interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Stanfield.
The family wants to Thank Mountain Creek Care Home and Dr. Dessieux and his office for the wonderful care they gave Mom these last 2 years. Thanks also to Sheila Koester for her wonderful care and support for our parents for many years.
