Elbert Vincent Eppenbach

Elbert Vincent Eppenbach, longtime Irrigon, Oregon, resident, was born on July 6, 1907, in Lynch, Nebraska, to parents Frank and Mary Stanton Eppenbach. He died on January 13, 2013, at his home in Irrigon, Oregon, at the age of 105 years.

Elbert was united in marriage to Faye R. Paxson on January 11, 1932, in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. They lived in Williams, Minnesota, and he worked for the Northern Farmers Seed Company. In 1951, they moved to Irrigon, Oregon, where they have lived since. Elbert worked as a surveillance supervisor at the Umatilla Army Depot for 27 years.

After retirement, he along with the help of his 8 children raised grain, alfalfa hay, and a large garden. Elbert was a life member of the NRA, a deacon and was very active in the Irrigon Community Baptist Church, member of the Irrigon City Council, active on the Irrigon School Board, and donated his time and money to many charities and church activities throughout his life. He spent his later years enjoying gardening, spending time with his family, and riding his three-wheel bicycle around Irrigon.

He is survived by his wife of 81 years: Faye Eppenbach, Irrigon, Ore.; children: Donald Eppenbach, Irrigon, Ore., Norman Eppenbach, Umatilla, Ore., Wayne Eppenbach, Stanfield, Ore., Judy Cunningham, Ukiah, Ore., Elnora Marlow, Irrigon, Ore., Donna Matlack, Irrigon, Ore., Betty Baird, Bedford, Wyo., and John Eppenbach, Irrigon, Ore.; 19 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.

Elbert was preceded in death by his parents, 5 siblings, 2 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Stokes Landing Senior Center, Irrigon, Oregon. Burial will follow at the Desert Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Irrigon, Oregon.
