Darrell LaVern “Vern” Marlow was born on January 2, 1932, in Pendleton, Oregon, to parents John LaRoy “Roy” Marlow and Naomi LaVelle Hadley Marlow. He went home to be with the Lord on December 10, 2015, at home in Hermiston, Oregon, surrounded by his family at the age of 83 years.
Vern was raised in Pendleton, Oregon, for a short time and then in Irrigon, Oregon, where he graduated from high school in 1950. He then attended Linfield College for a year before he joined the United States Navy. Vern was united in marriage to Elathine “Ella” Parke on October 24, 1951, in Hermiston, Oregon. He served during the Korean conflict in Guam and throughout the South Pacific on an aircraft carrier from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1956.
