Christine Boise, 74, of Hermiston, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, in her home after a short battle with lung cancer. A celebration of life service was held Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Burial followed at the Hermiston Cemetery.
Mrs. Boise was born Jan. 28, 1936, in Warnsdorf, Germany, to Ferdinand and Anna Spiegel Schlegel. She was raised and attended school in Germany.
She then escaped communist Germany to West Germany, where she met and married Larry L. Boise in 1962. They lived in Germany for a time before Larry was transferred by the Army to Fort Sill, Okla. They were stationed at various bases before moving to Fort Lewis, Wash. They lived there until 1976, when the family moved to Hermiston.
She was the housekeeping supervisor at the Posada Inn (which later became Oxford Inn) and the Oxford Suites in Hermiston for 20 years before retiring in 1998.
Mrs. Boise is survived by sons Mike Boise of Kennewick, Wash., and Larry Boise Jr., of Hermiston; daughter Suzanne Schmittle of Hermiston; stepdaughters Iris Hallgarth of Elgin and Pam Young of Vancouver, Wash; brother Karl Schlegel of Germany; sisters Helga Dietsch and Hilda Siebert, both of Germany; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Larry L. Boise in 2000; her parents; and six brothers and sisters.
