Bernard Ivan "Ben" Welch, 72, of Boardman died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at his home.

At his request, there will be no funeral. Disposition was by cremation. The family plans a private memorial service later.

Mr. Welch was born April 20, 1936, in Payette, Idaho, to Okle Lloyd and Cleo Olive (Bergstrom) Welch. He grew up on Reddin Hollow Mountain near Weston. He moved to Seattle and worked as a mechanic for Boeing for 11 years. He then moved to California for a couple of years before moving to Echo in 1980, where he owned property and worked laying carpet. He moved to Boardman in 1990, where he retired.

He enjoyed fishing and handyman crafts.

Survivors include a son, John Clark of Pendleton; daughters Barbara Welch of Yuma, Ariz., Connie Gerke of Seattle, and Justin Welch of Pendleton; brothers Frank Welch of Milton-Freewater and Abel Welch of Stites, Idaho; sisters Jewel Campo of Tacoma, Wash., and Lorraine Welch of North Bend, and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Okle and Cleo Welch.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.
