Arlene Baehne Hamman McCall

Arlene Baehne Hamman McCall of Hermiston died Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at the age of 93, at the Rocking D Residential Care Facility where she resided. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at the Hermiston Cemetery. A reception will follow at 2 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge in Hermiston for family and friends.

Mrs. McCall was born February 18, 1919, in Rockford, Iowa, to Adolf and Hazel (Madison) Baehne. She grew up on the family farm in Iowa with three siblings. She moved to Hermiston as a young girl. She met Harry Oliver Hamman who was employed in Hermiston.

Mr. and Mrs. Hamman married on May 11, 1935, in Walla Walla, Washington. They had four sons. Mr. Hamman passed away on February 14, 1969, at the VA in Walla Walla, Washington. She later met and married Alvin John McCall on November 23, 1973, in Reno, Nevada. Mr. McCall passed away on February 3, 2006, at their home in Hermiston.

Arlene was a longtime member and past president of the Hermiston Elks Emblem Club and was an original band member of the once-famous Prairie Chickens Kitchen Band, playing kettle cooking pans with spoons. The Prairie Chickens Kitchen Band performed on the West Coast providing entertainment at many events, including TV and radio. She also was a longtime member of the Eagles WomenÂ’s Auxiliary.

Arlene was a homemaker. She loved her flowers, vegetable garden and spent many hours canning for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Harry O. Hamman and Alvin J. McCall, son Harry Allan Hamman, and her three siblings.

Arlene is survived by her sons, John Hamman (Mary Lou) of Umatilla, Michael Hamman (Faye) of Hermiston, and Thomas Hamman (Jeannie) of Otis, Oregon, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Vange John Memorial Hospice, 1050 W. Elm Ave., Ste 220, Hermiston, OR 97838.
