Aretha Dora "Mimi" Steinbeck, 88, a former longtime Hermiston resident, died July 21, 2008 at Ashley Manor in Baker City.
Her graveside funeral will at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hermiston Cemetery.
Mrs. Steinbeck was born April 19, 1920 in La Grande to C. Eugene "Smiley" Gibson and Nora Duckett Gibson. She grew up in La Grande and married J.D. Steinbeck on May 29, 1939, in Walla Walla, Wash. Throughout their lives they lived in La Grande, John Day, Tillamook, Ashland, and Culver, before moving in 1964 to Hermiston, where they lived until 2003.
They then moved to John Day and later Baker City for health reasons.
Mrs. Steinbeck enjoyed gardening, her rose garden, fishing, and being a homemaker. She loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, J.D. Steinbeck of Baker City; a son, Don, and daughter-in-law, Char of Seneca; grandchildren, Shaun and Michelle Steinbeck of Burns, Kim and Mike Lofting of Culver, Brenda and Mike Engebretson of Warrenton; great grandchildren, Jacob, Mitchel and Nathan Steinbeck of Burns; Justy and Zach Lofting of Culver; Brandon and Stephanie Engebretson of Warrenton; Josh, Haley, and Kylie Engebretson of Warrenton; and one great-great-grandson, Masyn Engebretson of Warrenton.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jim Steinbeck, in 2002 and by her parents.
