Forest Clinton Wood

HERMISTON Forest Clinton Tim Wood, 83, of Hermiston died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Rose Arbor Assisted Living Facility in Hermiston.
Tim was born in Humboldt, Iowa, on July 31, 1917, the youngest of Clinton and Fay Verbrugge Wood. He attended schools in Iowa and in 1941 came to Hermiston as an electric foreman to work in the construction of the Ordnance Depot.
On Aug. 11, 1941, he married Katherine Volberding in Lewiston, Idaho. After several years traveling in construction, he joined the Army and served in the European theater as a member of joint assault troops who made beach head landings, including those in France on D Day, 1944.
After his discharge from the Army at the wars end, the family returned to Hermiston and he started his own electrical business, the F.C. Wood Company. He continued as an electrical contractor in Hermiston until he retired in 1982. Since then he farmed his acreage at the edge of town and still worked occasionally as an electrical contractor.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church, a life member of the Elks Club and active in community affairs.
Tim is survived by his sons, David Wood of Dallas, Texas, John Wood of Tillamook, Stephen Wood of Kennewick, Wash., and Peter Wood of Madison, Conn.; daughters, Gretchen Martin of Virginia Beach, Va., and Susan Purdy of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Edna Day of Gilmore, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay, on April 27, 1991; and two sisters.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 8, at 10 a.m. at the Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston, with burial in the Hermiston Cemetery.
