Esther Dyer Wetterling

HERMISTON — Esther Dyer Wetterling died Wednesday, July 11, at Hermiston Care and Retirement Community at the age of 89.

She was born Oct. 12, 1911, in Van Buren Township, Iowa, to Morton Worth and May Fern (Nicklin) Dyer. She had been a resident of Hermiston since 1978.

On Sept. 18, 1944, she married Theodore Wetterling in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a homemaker who also taught Sunday School for several years in Newport News, Va., and Hermiston. She attended the Wesleyan Church.

Esther enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting and sewing all of her own clothes. She was very proud to be a great-grandmother.

She is survived by her sons, Aaron Wetterling of Hermiston, John Wetterling of Pasco, Wash., and Phillip Wetterling of Susan, Va.; a daughter, Marita Bradley of Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Theodore Wetterling, in 1995; a brother, David Dyer; and sisters, Anna Marie Newton and Vida Coate.

Memorial services were held Monday, July 16, at the Open Arms Wesleyan Church in Hermiston. A private family inurnment followed at the Hermiston Cemetery. Disposition was by cremation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Open Arms Wesleyan Church. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston was in charge of the arrangements.
