Evelyn Lorraine Westfall

HERMISTON — Evelyn Lorraine Westfall died Thursday, Jan. 17, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston at the age of 61.

Evelyn was born in Denver, Colo., on April 2, 1940, to Ross and Lucille Tefft.

She met George Westfall at an early age in Pasco, Wash., where they married on April 10, 1955, and started their family. In 1959, they moved to Portland. She stayed active in her children’s early education by being a P.T.A. president and block home representative, as well as opening her home to 16 foster children.

In 1977, Evelyn and George and their youngest daughter, Bonnie, moved to Umatilla. After her children where grown, Evelyn pursued a career with J.R. Simplot Co. in Hermiston. She took medical retirement after 20 years of service.

Evelyn loved people and truly enjoyed her fellow employees.

She is survived by her husband, George Westfall of Hermiston; son, George R. Westfall of Hermiston; daughters, Karol Westfall of Hermiston, Sheryl Etchison of St. Helens and Bonnie Westfall of Portland; sister, Vivian Herman of Mohave Valley, Ariz.; brothers, Ed Tefft of Portland and Melvin Tefft of Lebanon, Kan.; grandchildren, Mathew and Michael Drew of Portland, Greg Lannan of Portland, Ryan, Sarah and Joseph Etchison of St. Helens, and George Jr., Grace and Dylan Westfall of Hermiston; and great-nephew, Lee Herman of Hermiston.

A funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 21, at the Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Burial followed in the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Umatilla.

In place of memorial contributions or flowers, Evelyn’s family would like everyone to honor her memory by dedicating time, love and, if need be, forgiveness to their families. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston was in charge of the arrangements.
