The Hermiston Warming Station plans to be ready to open Nov. 1.

During the month of November, the station will be located in the fellowship hall at St. John's Episcopal Church, 665 E. Gladys in Hermiston. During the month, Volunteers will man the station on nights predicted to have temperatures of 35 degrees or below and with at least a 40 percent chance of rain.

The group continues to seek a location or locations for the remainder of the winter season. Organizers would like to operate a warming station through March on freezing nights.

The first volunteer training session will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The training will cover HWS procedures and protocols, as well as a question-and-answer session. New volunteers are welcome.

To attend the volunteer training, for more information or to suggest a building for this year’s cold nights, contact Carol Johnson at (541) 720-4295.
