Last weekend, more than 200 Christmas trees were delivered to the Umatilla County Fairgrounds, and Saturday officials need volunteer help to decorate a portion of the trees as well as to complete last-minute projects before the Festival of Lights opens next Friday.

“The support has been amazing,” Fair Board President Buzz Brazeau said Monday. “Less than 60 days ago, we didn’t think we could do it.”

The second Festival of Lights volunteer day will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Umatilla County Fairgrounds, and Fair Director Peggy Clough said the volunteer work should be completed before noon.

“There’s just a lot of little things that need to be finished and checked before we open,” she said Monday.

The 12th annual Festival of Lights begins at 6 p.m. Nov. 26 with the lighted parade, followed by the opening of the fairgrounds displays. Festival of Lights will continue, weather permitting, until Dec. 19.
