Mustaches, sideburns and bushy eyebrows took over Clara Brownell Middle School on Friday morning as the students participated in “Mustache Day,” a fundraiser for the school’s Associated Student Body.

“We ordered 180 (mustaches), and we’ve almost sold all of them,” ASB member Amanda Carlson, an eighth-grader, said. “It’s going good.”

For $1, students and staff could purchase an adhesive mustache to wear around the school on Friday. Some students chose the traditional mustache placement while others transformed the faux facial hair into sideburns, eyebrows, goatees and beards.

Staff and students with existing mustaches were also charged a dollar for the privilege.

“We’re trying to raise as much as we can,” sixth-grader Heidy Mejia said. “We have a lot of things we’re thinking about.”

Officials said the ASB is focusing on in-school fundraisers rather than door-to-door. This year, the school has also offered iPod Days and Referral Days. Funds raised help with ASB activities and school events, as well as other projects, such as bringing in authors and setting up recycling bins.

“There are lots of things we could do,” seventh-grader Cameron Sipe said. “We’re saving up.”
