Each year, an outstanding business and citizen of Umatilla are honored at the Umatilla Chamber of Commerce’s Distinguished Citizen banquet. The 2011 banquet is at 6:30 p.m. on March 11, 2011, at the Desert River Inn, 705 Willamette, Umatilla.

"It's important to give recognition to those in our community who go the extra mile for Umatilla," Karen Hutchinson-Talaski, chamber executive director, said. "There are so many people in town who love Umatilla and see its potential; it is difficult to choose just one person."

The business and citizen of the year are chosen based on contributions made in the last five years; although this year's recipients have contributed to the betterment of Umatilla for many years.

Several local organizations, including the Umatilla School District and the Umatilla Police Department, are also awarding certificates to those individuals who best exemplify the best in people.

To nominate someone for either business or citizen of the year, please complete a nomination form, available at the chamber office, 100 Cline Ave.; Carlson's Umatilla Drug, 821 6th St.; Banner Bank, 634 6th St.; or Umatilla City Hall, 700 6th St. For more information, please call Karen Hutchinson-Talaski at 541-922-4825 or by e-mail at karen@umatillachamber.net
