A perimeter fence at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla malfunctioned Friday, knocking out one of at least six layers of security at the prison.

Aleca Nelson, public information officer, said the fence's malfunction caused a "communication failure alarm," but there was no danger resulting from the situation, and no extra security measures were taken.

"Our operations remain as usual," Nelson said.

Nelson said workers still were trying to determine the cause of the alarm and Nelson is unsure of how long the fence would be off-line. The fence does not affect the primary layers of security on the inside, she said.
