On Wednesday, May 4, Hermiston Police Officer Victor Gutierrez was forced to chase down 19-year-old Kennan Thomas after the teen attempted to flee on foot during a traffic stop.

Thomas was driving a 2001 Ford Focus near Southwest 12th Street and West Poplar Avenue when Gutierrez pulled the teen over. According to HPD log notes, another suspect fled the scene on foot as well.

Thomas was charged with attempting to elude on foot, DUII, no operators license, driving uninsured and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

In other drug-related arrests, police arrested Alycia Balentine, 21, at Sunset Motel on North First Street in what began, according to the police log, as a “knock-and-talk.” Balentine was charged with unlawful possession of meth, frequenting a drug house, endangering the welfare of a minor and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

Police are also investigating a burglary that was reported at 5:28 a.m. Wednesday at Hermiston High School. According to police, someone broke into the high school bookkeeping office. Police have not disclosed what was stolen, and an investigation is continuing.
