PENDLETON Lawyers for Kathleen Ruth Blankenship will employ an insanity defense for the woman accused of killing her husband in their home on Cooney Lane on April 6.
Doug Fischer, a court-appointed lawyer for Blankenship, 38, announced during a hearing last Tuesday in a Umatilla County Court room that the Intermountain Defenders Office intended on introducing expert testimony on a lack of intent, extreme mental and emotional disturbance and insanity.
The defenders office filed these notices April 17 with the Umatilla County Court.
Blankenship has been lodged in the Umatilla County Jail with no bail on charges of intentional murder of her husband, Walter Blankenship, 44.
I dont think she has a leg to stand on, said Walters sister, Mary Kligel, after the hearing. She can try all she wants it wont work. She isnt insane. She did too much planning. She deserves everything she gets. Its devastating. Its been so hard on our mom and dad. Its hard to get over. And to think she still carries the Blankenship name.
