Harold Austin Sowell

HERMISTON — Harold Austin Sowell died Friday, March 7, at his home in Hermiston at the age of 63.

Harold had been a resident of Hermiston for 35 years. He was born on Jan. 15, 1940, in Weston to William Lewis "Bill" and Alice Elizabeth (Fuller) Sowell.

He served in the U.S. Navy. After the service, he worked for John Deere Tractor Company in Gresham.

He married Janet Marie Cook in Goldfield, Nev., on April 6, 1989.

Harold enjoyed stamp collecting, riding motorcycles, and was an accomplished musician who could play any stringed instrument and played with several bands in the area.

He is survived by his mother, Alice Sowell of Stanfield; son, Gregory Austin Sowell of Keizer; daughter, Colleen Hope Robinson of Elgin; brothers, Dale Sowell of Hermiston and Ray Sowell of Milton-Freewater; sister, Rosemary Graham of Stanfield; and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Krystina and Brett Sowell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Marie Sowell, in January of this year; father, William "Bill" Sowell, in 1995; and two brothers, Douglas Sowell and Dorance Sowell.

At his request, there will be no services held. Disposition was by cremation.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of the arrangements.
