PORTLAND — Ralph Schwartzkopf, 85, died Monday, July 16, at a Portland hospital.
Ralph was born on Dec. 23, 1915, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Henry and Mary Foos Schwartzkopf. He was married to his first wife, Beulah, and they were later divorced. He married Vivian Keck on Nov. 9, 1999, in The Dalles.
Mr. Schwartzkopf was schooled and graduated from a Pasco, Wash., school. Ralph was a tech sergeant in the Army Air Foce during World War II and served in England, his main job while in the Army was an armament specialist and a trainer in armament.
After the war, Ralph was in law enforcement as a city policeman in Lewiston, Idaho; deputy sheriff in Gooding and Orofino, Idaho, counties; he was also with the Idaho State Police. Ralph was a member of the Hermiston First Christian Church, V.F.W. Masons and Shriners.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Vivian, of Hermiston; son, Charles “Bud” Schwartzkopf of Lewiston, Idaho; daughter, Kay Stroops of Asoton, Wash.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Hudlow of Walla Walla, Wash., and Molley Ownes of Pasco, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and his first wife, Beulah.
A memorial service was held Monday, July 23, at the Hermiston First Christian Church. Disposition was by cremation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hermiston First Christian Church or the charity of oneÂ’s choice. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston was in charge of the arrangements.
