Customers at Safeway in Hermiston can help end hunger in their community, as the supermarket has launched its “Heart of Safeway” food-drive program.

Bags filled with merchandise rest on a table inside the supermarket — each one purchased will stay in the community.

Once bought, the bags make their way to a large food barrel inside Safeway.

The program is up and running according to Safeway management, and it will run through the holidays.
