Jose L. "Joe" Rodriguez

March 19, 1920-March 12, 2003

HERMISTON — Jose L. "Joe" Rodriguez died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston at the age of 82.

He was born on March 19, 1920, in Quaguita, Mexico, to Tereso and Guadalupe Rodriguez. He was raised in Texas.

Jose married Maria Hiracheta on Nov. 17, 1941, in Tahoka, Texas. They moved to Stanfield in 1957 and later to Hermiston in 1968 where they had lived since.

Jose worked at C&B Livestock in Hermiston until he retired in 1982.

He enjoyed hunting, gardening and raising cows. He had a good sense of humor and loved to tease.

He was an active member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston where he served as a Eucharistic minister for 22 years. He encouraged others to be active in church, as well.

Jose is survived by his wife, Maria Rodriguez of Hermiston; his children, Tereso Rodriguez of Hayward, Calif., Cipriano Rodriguez of Hermiston, Luis Rodriguez of La Grande, Frank Rodriguez of Stanfield, Jane Taylor of Lebanon and Rosie Whiteley of Sparks, Nev.; brothers, Juan Rodriguez of Morton, Texas, Clemente Rodriguez of Pasco, Wash., Lorenzo Rodriguez of Pasadena, Texas, and Bisente Rodriguez of Elsa, Texas; sisters, Juanita Rodriguez of Elsa, Texas, Asenciona Alafa of Farmville, Calif., and Serjia Rodriguez of Elsa, Texas; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carlos, Francisco and Juan; and a sister, Maria Muniz.

Rosary was held Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. A funeral mass was held Monday, March 17, at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. Burial followed at the Hermiston Cemetery.
