Riverside's boys basketball team dropped a season finale to conference champions Nyssa, but still punched their ticket to the state playoffs by topping Vale 46-29 on Friday night.
Eric Yoder led all scorers with 16 points on the night, followed by Anthony Calvillo and Robert Turner with 10 points apiece.
The game was tightly contested through the first half, though Riverside outscored Vale 18-4 in the third quarter to put the game on ice.
The win sets up a first-round playoff date at Clatskanie, set for Friday the time has not yet been determined for the game with a berth in the state quarterfinals on the line.
The round of 16 is where Riverside bowed out of last year's 3A tournament, after knocking off Sisters 65-60 in the first round and falling to now-5A Sherwood on the road, 52-28.
On the girls' side, it was disappointing finish to the season, as the Lady Pirates were done in both by Vale on Friday, 56-27, and Nyssa on Saturday, 52-15m to close out their year.
Riverside finished the Eastern Oregon League schedule without a conference win, though they did bag three non-conference victories on the season.
