Final results from an election naming the mayor and four Hermiston city councilors may be available between 11 p.m. and midnight Tuesday.

Umatilla County Elections official Patti Chapman said preliminary results from the election will be available online at the elections website by 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Chapman said ballots will be gathered from City Hall throughout the day Tuesday, the last of which will be collected at 8 p.m. It will take extra time to count and verify the last batch of ballots, according to Chapman.

Voters who cast their ballot by June 5 will decide whether  Mayor Bob Severson and councilors Rod Hardin, Frank Harkenrider, Joe Harn and Jackie Myers will remain in office.

The election, which resulted from petitions gathered by the Hermiston Government Reform Committee, is a historic one for the town, even if controversial.

“It hasn’t happened since I’ve worked here,” Chapman said Wednesday of the Hermiston recall.
