Doris Lucille Pugh

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Doris Lucille Pugh died March 1, at the Canyon Lakes Restorative and Rehabilitation Center in Kennewick, Wash., at the age of 89.

She was born in Daniel, Wyo., on Oct. 6, 1913, to David and Mary Hurlburt Scott. She attended a one-room schoolhouse until the age of 12, and then attended a private high school. She returned home to teach at the one-room school for two years. She then attended the University of Wyoming and received her teaching degree.

She married Dale Pugh on Aug. 4, 1940. She moved to Hermiston in the 1950s and taught high school in Stanfield for a time, then taught sixth grade in Park Hill and in the Locust school building.

Doris retired from teaching in 1963.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Pugh, in 1998.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann Peters of Woodburn and Sylvia Bush of Hermiston; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A memorial graveside service for Doris will be held Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m. in the Hermiston Cemetery.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of the arrangements.
