“Rick” Preston Sr.

April 10, 1928-March 13, 2002

HERMISTON — Richard Rolland “Rick” Preston Sr. died Wednesday, March 13, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston at the age of 73.

Rick was born April 10, 1928 in Prairie City to Charles Nelson and Bertha Elizabeth (Guilliams) Preston. He had been a resident of Hermiston for the past 11 years and formerly lived in numerous places throughout the west following construction jobs. He worked for Peter Kiewit Sons Company for 28 years as a foreman and service oiler in heavy construction.

On Dec. 13, 1948, he married Beverly Bush at the Unitarian Church in Reno, Nev. He served in the U.S. Air Force at Maxwell Field in Montgomery, Ala., from 1946-1948. Rick was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 701 in Portland for 40 years. He was a devoted family man who liked to read, fish and he loved airplanes.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beverly of Hermiston; sons, Richard Preston Jr. of Hermiston and Baron Preston of Lewiston, Idaho; daughters, Tauni Isitt of Walla Walla, Wash.; Valorie Matlack of Hermiston and Elizabeth Morkert of Trout Creek, Mont.; brother, Andy Preston of Union; Nephew Gary Preston of Hermiston; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bertha Preston; brothers, Wallace Preston and Jerry Preston; and sister, June Cannon.

Graveside funeral services were held Friday, March 15, at the Hermiston Cemetery. A celebration of life memorial service was held Saturday, March 16, at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Hermiston.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston was in charge of the arrangements.
