The Portland Police Bureau will be increasing their presence downtown for Wednesday's Major League Soccer All-Star game.

Sgt. Pete Simpson says that although the high-profile event is not much bigger than a regular-season sold-out game, they are expecting more out of town visitors.

"We want to make sure we have plenty of officers around to provide the visible security that people like to see when they go to a sporting event. And also be available to respond in case there are any issues or emergencies that occur in the area," Simpson explained.

Simpson also says that they don't anticipate problems, but in the past they've seen excessive drinking and fighting.

Southwest 18th Avenue will be closed from Salmon to Morrison Street. All mass transit will be running on its regular schedule.

For those who couldn't get tickets, the game will be shown live at Pioneer Courthouse Square. The live telecast begins at 6 p.m. PT.
