Benito Medelez

April 16, 1917-April 14, 2001

HERMISTON — Benito Medelez died Saturday, April 14, at the Good Samaritan Center in Hermiston at the age of 83.

Benito was born in San Benito, Texas, on April 16, 1917, to Jose and Abundia Lopez Medelez. He had been a resident of Hermiston since 1974, and had worked both in the Hermiston area and in Texas. He was a recruiting supervisor and truck driver operator with different agricultural companies.

Benito was a member of the Catholic Church. He married his wife, Francisca, on Sept. 20, 1939.

He is survived by his wife, Francisca F. Medelez of Hermiston; three sons, Benito Medelez Jr., Jose C. Medelez and Humberto Medelez, all of Hermiston; five daughters, Juanita Leal of Mission, Texas, Delfina Posada, Olga Medelez, Oralia M. Gonzalez and Vicky Villarreal, all of Hermiston; 36 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Recitation of the Rosary was held Monday, April 16, at the Burns Mortuary Chapel. Funeral services and burial will be held later in Grulla, Texas.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of the arrangements.
