James "Jim" "Cuz" Martin

RICHLAND, Wash. — James "Jim" "Cuz" Martin died Sunday, April 13, at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Wash., at the age of 59.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1943 in Waldron, Ark., to Frank and Nettie Jett Martin. His family moved to Stanfield during his early childhood, where he attended schools and graduated from Stanfield High School.

He then went to work for Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor and brakeman. He continued to work for the railroad right up to the time of his death.

He married Phyllis Culp on Aug. 5, 1999, in Umatilla.

He was a member of the United Transportation Union. He loved to golf, and enjoyed working in his yard, the outdoors, traveling, life in general, and spending time with his family and friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Phyllis Martin of Umatilla; son and his wife, Todd and Dawna Martin of Hermiston; daughter, Nan Martin Clapp of Brownspoint, Calif.; stepson, Kris Thieme of Pilot Rock; stepdaughter, Shawna Langley of Aloha; sister, Frankie Martin of Umatilla; three grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private family service will be held. Those who wish may make contributions in Jim's memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in care of Burns Mortuary of Hermiston at P.O. Box 289, Hermiston, 97838.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of the arrangements.
