LA CENTER, Wash. — Marie Jo Freeman, a former resident of Hermiston, died Feb. 21, at her home in La Center, Wash., with family by her side.

A Catholic funeral to honor and celebrate Marie's life was held Monday, Feb. 26, at Anderson's Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River. Graveside rites followed at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery of Hood River. Father Todd Unger officiated. A reception for family and friends followed at Anderson's.

Marie was born Oct. 3, 1922 in Brushy Creek, Ala., to Charles and Emily (Calvert) Bates. She grew up in Alabama attending school their and later moved to Oregon in 1952.

Marie is survived by her six children, Paul Buchanan, Patrick Buchanan, Donna Steinman, Timothy Buchanan, Mary McCarver and Robin Buchanan; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and other distant family and friends.

Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, 97031.
