HERMISTON — Mabel J. Trent died on Oct. 25, at her daughter's home with her family by her side in Hermiston at the age of 83 years.

She was born on Feb. 4, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa to Forest Silvaus and Anna Minervia Bensen Clark. Mabel was raised and attended schools in Iowa. She lived in Iowa until 1961 when she moved to Lompoc, Calif. Mabel went to work at Vandenberg Air Force Base in 1965 as a key punch operator and worked there until her retirement in 1986. She continued to live in Lompoc until 2005 when she moved to Hermiston.

She took great joy in volunteering with many different organizations through the years including, ½ Century Club in California and the Agape House after moving to Hermiston. Mabel enjoyed tap dancing, line dancing, crocheting, pool aerobics, bowling, and traveling. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association, NARFE Lompoc Chapter # 1087, American Legion Aux., and the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce.

She is survived by her sons, Robert C. Hites, Yuba City, Calif., and Daniel A. Melson, Biloxi, Miss.; daughters, Barbara A. White, Hermiston, Diane I. Palma, Lancaster, Calif., Cathy J. Fennell, Lompoc, Calif., Toni A. Marley, Jefferson, N.C., Christa M. Hampton, Lompoc, Calif., and Marty A. Chapman, North Wilkesboro, N.C.; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil Melson and Leonard Trent; three brothers, Harry Albert, and Elmer Madden; and four sisters, Louise Dockery, Myra Clark, Bertha Clark, and Nellie Clark.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. at the North Avenue Baptist Church, Lompoc, Calif.

Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.
