PORTLAND — Lyle J. Hallowell of Hermiston died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland at the age of 49.

He was born June 18, 1954, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Rodney and Hazel Booth Hallowell. He had been a resident of Walla Walla for 23 years and Hermiston for 25 years.

He attend DeSales schools and graduated from DeSales High School. He went to Washington State University for two years and then returned to Walla Walla.

He married Sandra R. Prest on June 27, 1975, in Walla Walla.

He became employed by Auto Supply, Inc., in Walla Walla for two years and then he was transferred to Hermiston to manage 8 to 8 Auto Supply from August 1977 to September 1990. He then became the parts and service manager for Harley-Swain Subaru where he worked up to the time of this death.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Hermiston. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, golf, and his garden and yard.

His special hobby was cars and worked with old and new models.

He was a devoted husband and father, and his daughters were his high priority along with his grandchildren. He was an outgoing person and had a host of friends and several "adopted" daughters and their friends.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra R. Hallowell in Hermiston; three daughters and their husbands, Michelle and Brian Miller of Tigard, Stacey and Jacob Schouten of Hermiston and Andrea Hallowell of Oahu, Hawaii; parents, Rodney and Hazel Hallowell of Seattle; mother-in-law, Hazel Pomraning of Walla Walla; half sister, Sandra Mattingly of Seattle; three grandchildren, Taylor Miller and Kiersten Miller, both of Tigard, and Zoe Schouten of Hermiston; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and one uncle.

A funeral was held today, July 22, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of the Herring Funeral Home in Walla Walla. Rev. Don Gibbard officiated. Vault interment will follow at Mountian View Cemetery. The active pallbearers were Jeff Boedigheimer, Mike Boedigheimer, Ben Cavalli, Bill Dreger, Jay Maiuri and Marc Maiuri.

Herring Groseclose Funeral Home in Walla Walla is in charge of the arrangements.
